Dr. Tarunjit Singh Butalia
President, Interfaith Association of Central Ohio
Dr. Tarunjit Singh Butalia, at the national level, is the Chairperson of the National Interfaith Committee of the World Sikh Council - America Region, Moderator of Religions for Peace - USA, Vice-Chair of North American Interfaith Network, member of Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions, and a member of the Board of Scholars and Practitioners of The Journal of Inter-Religious Dialogue.
In Central Ohio, he is the President of the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio, Secretary of the Sikh Educational and Religious Foundation, Secretary of Interfaith Center for Peace, Co-convener of Faith Communities Uniting for Peace, and a member of the Religious Advisory Council of the Mayor of Columbus.
Dr. Butalia was a member of the Religious Experience Advisory Council of the Ohio Bicentennial Commission and has co-edited a book titled ‘Religion in Ohio: Profiles of Faith Communities,’ for the 200th birthday of Ohio. The book was published by Ohio University Press in 2004.
Dr. Butalia is passionate about his faith, and promoting interfaith understanding and respect.
In November of 2002, Dr. Butalia’s interfaith efforts were recognized in a special “Faith in Action” article in the Faith and Values section of The Columbus Dispatch. In May 2004, he received the inaugural Living Faith Interfaith Award from the Columbus Metropolitan Area Church Council. His interfaith efforts have been showcased nationally on the Hallmark Channel.
He has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University and is on the research faculty at the university. He was born and raised in the north Indian state of Punjab. He is a naturalized US citizen and has lived since 1989 in Central Ohio. He lives in Dublin, Ohio with wife Ramneet, daughters Jasjit and Simranjit, and son Sukhjit.
